AI doubts pushed investors toward safe havens as Bitcoin’s rebound failed.

Treasuries attracted buyers as investors reduced risk, while Bitcoin slipped below $80,000 over the weekend. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $301.2 million in net inflows for the week, reversing the previous week’s $228.4 million outflow. • Security updates. Bitcoin developers accelerated vulnerability disclosure and patching. Bitcoin Core adopted faster disclosure and patching for easily rediscovered bugs; Eclair patched two Lightning theft paths, with no known exploitation reported.

• Treasury financing. Strive expanded its Bitcoin treasury financing. Its $630 million SATS preferred offering began trading, supporting plans for Bitcoin and income-generating assets.

• Energy pressure. Oil stayed elevated despite recovering Hormuz flows. Bloomberg economist Ziad Daoud cited the risk of renewed Iran fighting.

What it means

Bitcoin’s financial infrastructure continues to expand, but broader access has yet to translate into sustained demand.

The failed rebound and late-week ETF outflows underscore that a positive weekly flow balance alone does not establish a recovery. Elevated oil prices add uncertainty to the outlook for inflation and monetary easing. A durable recovery will require consistent buying through Bitcoin’s expanding investment channels.

Market Brief

Bitcoin closed the week at $80,232, with a market capitalization of $1.61 trillion and 1,246 sats per dollar.

It opened at $81,899 and finished at $80,232 for a -2.04% weekly return. The early rebound peaked at Wednesday’s $84,297 daily close before fading to the week’s lowest daily close on Sunday.

The reversal leaves sellers with near-term momentum; a rebound needs more than an isolated strong session to change that assessment.

Our market view

Bitcoin closed below the $80,600 November 2025 low on October 24, its first close beneath that level since September 17. With former support now overhead, the near-term outlook remains bearish. We expect Bitcoin to test its one-year moving average at $77,507 over the next one to two weeks.

• Holding $77,500: Trading between the $77,507 1-year moving average and the $80,600 November 2025 low should favor the lower end.

• Below $77,500: A break brings the zone between the $76,543 3-month moving average and the $75,714 short-term-holder cost basis into focus.

• Above $81,700: Reclaiming the $81,747 50-day moving average brings the $86,130 2025 Breakout Pivot into focus.

Seasonal Context

October’s weakness deepened: through October 25, Bitcoin returned -3.74% month to date, 8.60 percentage points below the same-date historical median of 4.86%. That places it 11th of 12 at this point in October.

November has historically risen in 9 of 14 years with a 10.11% median return, a favorable record rather than evidence that this year’s weakness will reverse.

Bitcoin’s -8.09% year-to-date return through October 25 leaves the annual recovery further behind. An 8.80% rally would restore breakeven, the more immediate milestone as year end approaches.

• October 27: Franklin Templeton’s Bitcoin DRIP ETF prospectuses are scheduled to become effective; we watch whether the dividend-funded route attracts allocations.

• October 28: The Federal Reserve’s rate decision and guidance test the prospect of easier financial conditions.

US inflation reaches 3.7% as Bitcoin falls below $82,000

Inflation ran hotter than expected in September. Consumer prices rose 3.7% from a year earlier, above the 3.6% forecast, and producer prices climbed 6.3%, the fastest since 2022, reinforcing the case for tighter Fed policy.

Markets added to rate-hike bets and lifted the dollar to its highest since May 2025, raising the opportunity cost of holding Bitcoin.

• Quantum planning. Coinbase wants Bitcoin’s post-quantum planning to account for institutional custody.

Possible index exclusions could weaken demand for treasury companies’ shares, making equity financing for further Bitcoin purchases less attractive. A softer Fed outlook and steady buying through banks would change that picture.

Bitcoin has remained below the $86,130 2025 Breakout Pivot since October 5, keeping the price trend in sellers’ favor. Over the next one to two weeks, another test of nearby support is more likely than a sustained recovery.

• Holding $80,600: We expect trading between the November 2025 low at $80,600 and the 2025 Breakout Pivot at $86,130, weighted toward the lower end.

• Below $80,600: We expect a test of the $78,061 1-year moving average.

• Above $86,100: Reclaiming the $86,130 2025 Breakout Pivot would bring the $93,638 2026 High Weekly Close into focus.

Seasonal Context

Through October 18, Bitcoin returned -1.80% month to date, trailing its same-date historical median of 4.72% by 6.52 percentage points.

Recent Octobers have been less buoyant: the 4-year average return is 10.26%, against the long-run 17.77% for completed months.

Bitcoin’s year-to-date return stands at -6.24%, leaving the recovery incomplete as year end approaches. Finishing flat would require a 6.66% rally, making breakeven the more immediate recovery milestone.

• October 28 — Fed rate decision: We watch whether the decision and guidance reinforce the tighter-rate expectations that followed September’s inflation report.

Last week’s call missed: Bitcoin lost the $86,130 pivot on Monday instead of holding it, then fell into the $78,945–$80,600 support zone we flagged as the downside case.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $729 million across Wednesday and Thursday

Redemptions hit funds from BlackRock, Fidelity, Morgan Stanley and ARK 21-Shares. The week ended with a $685.45 million net outflow, the largest weekly net outflow since the week of June 22.

Bitcoin’s main institutional demand channel turned net seller into a falling market.

Other headlines this week

• Fed keeps hikes in play. The rate outlook offered no relief.

  • Minutes of the September 15–16 meeting showed broad support for September’s hike and officials anticipating another without saying when, and Governor Christopher Waller said further hikes would likely be needed to slow inflation.

• Ledger reseller losses.

  • A custody scare hit hardware-wallet buyers. Ledger asked a Southeast Asian reseller to pause sales and shipments after an analyst estimated more than $86 million in multichain drains involving Bitcoin addresses. Ledger’s initial assessment points to the reseller, not its own systems, making device sourcing the immediate risk.

• Regulated access widens. The routes into Bitcoin kept expanding.

  • Thailand’s SEC issued rules allowing local Bitcoin and ether ETFs from October 16.

  • Sberbank said it won Bank of Russia approval to custody Bitcoin, starting with a limited customer group.

  • The CFTC opened public comment on rules for leveraged retail crypto trading.

What it means

Near-term pressure outweighed the structural gains. A Fed still leaning toward tightening keeps funding expensive, and ETF holders spent the week cutting exposure; the new access routes add demand capacity that pays off over quarters rather than weeks.

A return to steady ETF inflows would show demand absorbing the rate pressure, while another week of redemptions would confirm that demand is still retreating.

Bitcoin closed the week at $83,337, with a market capitalization of $1.67 trillion and 1,200 sats per dollar.

Bitcoin fell 3.34% from Monday’s $86,213 open to Sunday’s close, and Monday’s $86,018 close was the week’s highest.

Selling bottomed with an $81,650 close on Thursday, and three straight higher closes into Sunday recovered only part of the loss.

That rebound shows buyers defending the low $80,000s, but momentum stays negative while closes hold below where the week began.

Our market view

Over the next week or two, the 2025 breakout pivot at $86,130 matters most. Bitcoin slipped back below it on October 5, a day after reclaiming it, and the late-week rebound stalled short.

That failed breakout tilts near-term risk lower, toward the support cluster around our bear case that begins 11% below the close.

• Holding $80,000: We expect a range between the $80,600 November 2025 low and the $86,130 pivot, with a retest of the lower end more likely.

• Below $80,000: The $78,604 1-year moving average is the last nearby support; losing it exposes the cluster from short-term holders’ $74,313 cost basis down to our $70,000 bear case.

• Above $87,000: Reclaiming the pivot opens a move toward $93,638, the 2026 high weekly close.

Seasonal Context

October stands at -0.01% month to date through October 11, slightly above the same-date median of -0.43%. That ranks 2026 6th of 12 years at this date, mid-pack after the early gain was given back.

October’s history sets a higher bar, with a 13.36% median return since 2012, and a negative finish would end the run of three up months from July through September.

Year to date, Bitcoin is down 4.53%, far below the same-date median gain of 47.50%. Getting back to flat takes only a 4.75% rally, a small step next to that historical gap.

Looking Ahead

• October 14, US September CPI: The first inflation reading since the hawkish minutes; a firm print would strengthen the case for another hike.

• October 16, Thailand’s ETF rules take effect: We will watch how quickly local managers bring Bitcoin products to market, turning a rule change into new demand.

• October 28, Federal Reserve rate decision: The meeting tests whether officials follow through on the further tightening the minutes and Waller signaled.

Bitcoin closed the week at $86,246, with a market capitalization of $1.73 trillion and 1,159 sats per dollar.

Bitcoin gained 2.39% for the week, rising from $84,236 to $86,246. The more important signal was where it finished: Sunday marked the highest daily close since January 28 and the highest weekly close since the week of January 12.

That strengthens near-term momentum and puts the focus on whether Bitcoin can hold these levels and convert the move into a sustained advance.

Our market view

We anchor the next one to two weeks on the $80,600 November 2025 low.

Bitcoin has held above it and the 1-year moving average since September 18, 2026. The higher weekly close strengthens our near-term view, with $100,000 the first major resistance before our $120,000 base case.

• Holding $80,000: We expect an $80,000–$100,000 range, with an advance toward the upper end more likely than a return to support.

• Below $80,000: A break would shift focus to the $78,945–$79,279 zone, the 50-day and 1-year moving averages.

• Above $100,000: The next key level is $108,287, the 2024 all-time high. A sustained break above it would strengthen the path toward our $120,000 base case.

Seasonal Context

October is off to a stronger-than-usual start, gaining 3.48% through October 4 versus a historical same-date median of -0.03%. That follows a 6.11% September, the third-best September in the 15-year sample.

Bitcoin has now posted three consecutive positive months since June’s -20.96% decline, improving the seasonal trend into the fourth quarter.

For the year, Bitcoin remains down 1.20%. Returning to flat requires only a 1.21% gain, while matching the historical median full-year return of 107.05% would require a much larger move from here. We treat that historical path as context, not a target.

Looking Ahead

• October 14: September CPI. The next major inflation test after softer employment data; we watch whether it supports a less restrictive Fed path.

• October 27–28: Federal Reserve meeting. The rate decision and forward guidance are the month’s main macro catalyst for Bitcoin.

• October 28, 2026: Strategy holds a special shareholder meeting on daily dividends for STRC, STRF, STRK and STRD; we watch whether the proposed payout schedule improves their appeal.

Tracking Our 2026 Bitcoin Outlook

Our 2026 Bitcoin outlook established three year-end scenarios:

• $70,000 bear case, reflecting consolidation toward Bitcoin’s underlying cost basis.

• $120,000 base case, representing continued growth along its long-term trend.

• $160,000 bull case, reflecting renewed expansion above trend.

Q3 marked a significant shift in momentum.

Bitcoin traded below our bear-case price level throughout July before breaking above $70,000 in August. Despite renewed volatility in September, it finished the quarter at $83,347.

From that level, returning to $70,000 would represent a 16% decline, while reaching our base and bull cases by year-end would require advances of approximately 44% and 92%, respectively.

Bitcoin finished Q3 above its short-term holder cost basis of $73,341 and one-year moving average of $79,685, its first quarter-end above both since Q3 2025.

Recent holders were back in profit on average, while reclaiming the one-year average signaled improving momentum. Staying above both measures in Q4 would strengthen the recovery, a move back below would warn that momentum is weakening.

Together with Bitcoin remaining above its aggregate realized price of $53,587, these reclaimed levels support the case that the late-June low marked a market bottom.

Q3’s renewed buying and improving momentum strengthen that assessment heading into Q4.

Returning to the themes established in our 2026 outlook, Q3 changed the evidence on institutional buying and regulatory progress, with different implications for our year-end price assessment.

Institutional buying returns

What we expected: ETFs and other large holders would increasingly shape Bitcoin through their decisions to buy, hold or sell.

What happened:

• Bitcoin ETFs ended an eight-week outflow streak in July, followed by approximately $1.9 billion in inflows during the end of August.

• September’s $2.4 billion weekly inflow, the largest since October, pushed ETF flows positive for 2026.

Renewed ETF inflows provide the strongest near-term support for further price gains because they represent capital being allocated to Bitcoin now.

Continued buying through pullbacks would strengthen our expectation of further recovery in Q4, while persistent withdrawals would weaken that support and pull our assessment back toward the bear case.

Policy advances unevenly

What we expected: Implemented rules would reduce uncertainty and help banks and investors participate.

What happened:

• The SEC outlined tailored rules and exemptions for crypto markets in August, while the Clarity Act failed a September Senate procedural vote.

• The CFTC approved Coinbase’s clearinghouse for fully collateralized derivatives, excluding margined contracts.

The Clarity Act setback is a net negative for our outlook: it delays the broader framework that could support wider participation and weakens the policy catalyst behind our higher annual scenarios.

Coinbase’s clearing approval provides a smaller positive offset, with its limited scope carrying more weight for longer-term trading infrastructure than for our Q4 price assessment.

Updated Year-End Outlook

We expect Bitcoin to finish 2026 near $100,000 approximately 20% above quarter-end but below our original $120,000 base case.

Renewed ETF demand provides the strongest support for further gains. Reaching the base case would require an advance of nearly 44% in Q4, broadly comparable with Bitcoin’s 42.8% recovery in Q3. That makes continued buying and the financial backdrop central to whether Bitcoin can sustain a similar pace.

We expect the recovery to continue more moderately. The Fed’s September rate hike and rising long-term Treasury yields make interest-bearing assets more competitive, raising the hurdle for further Bitcoin allocations. Our estimate near $100,000 reflects a balance of returning ETF demand and financial conditions that continue to constrain its potential impact.

• Sustained ETF inflows alongside stabilizing yields would strengthen the case for approaching our base case.

• Renewed outflows or further tightening would increase the risk of reversing Q3’s gains.

What We’re Watching Next

ETF buying and financial conditions carry the most weight in our Q4 price assessment. Broader regulatory progress could provide additional support. Three developments will shape our view:

• ETF buying through pullbacks.

  • Continued inflows during price declines would strengthen the recovery’s demand support. Stronger, sustained buying would improve the case for approaching our original base case.

  • While persistent withdrawals would increase the risk of moving back toward the bear case.

• Inflation relief translating into lower yields.

  • Softer inflation would become more supportive for our price outlook if it brings sustained relief in Treasury yields, reducing competition from interest-bearing assets.

  • Renewed yield increases would weigh against the stronger annual scenarios, even if ETF demand remains positive.

• Broader regulatory progress.

  • A legislative framework becoming law and taking effect would carry more weight than additional narrow approvals because it could improve conditions for a wider group of participants.

  • Continued delays would keep the broader policy catalyst out of our near-term assessment, leaving buying demand to carry more of the recovery.

Q3 2025 | Momentum, consolidation, and the setup for new all-time-highs

Bitcoin entered the quarter strong, consolidating after its Q2 advance and maintaining bullish structure. At the same time, legislative momentum continued. The passage of the GENIUS Act marked a meaningful shift in U.S. digital-asset policy, particularly around stablecoins and payments infrastructure. This reinforced the sense that the broader digital-asset ecosystem was being absorbed into the regulatory perimeter.

However, this progress came with a trade-off, narrative dilution.

• Q3 marked the rise and peak of Bitcoin treasury companies. Following the playbook pioneered earlier in the cycle, a wave of public companies positioned Bitcoin holdings as their primary value proposition. These vehicles attracted significant attention and capital, particularly from retail investors seeking leveraged or equity-based exposure to Bitcoin’s upside. Valuations expanded quickly, and the “ Treasury company” narrative became a dominant theme across public markets.

• At the same time, crypto-native company IPOs accelerated, further broadening digital asset exposure within equity markets. This influx of listings shifted attention away from Bitcoin itself and toward a growing constellation of Bitcoin- and crypto-adjacent equities, increasing complexity and fragmenting investor focus.

• Alongside this, the narrative scope widened beyond Bitcoin. Regulatory momentum particularly around payments and market structure reignited interest in stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets, pulling capital and media attention toward the broader digital asset ecosystem. While these developments were constructive for the industry as a whole, they diluted Bitcoin’s singular narrative dominance.

This fragmentation was reflected clearly in Bitcoin’s price behavior. After its strong advance in Q2, Bitcoin spent much of Q3 consolidating at elevated levels, digesting gains rather than extending them. Late in the summer, price made a decisive push higher, briefly threatening a breakout from consolidation and raising expectations for a renewed leg up in the post-halving bull market.

That breakout failed. Rather than signaling renewed momentum, this move proved to be a liquidity event. For long-term Bitcoin holders many sitting on multi-year gains the attempted breakout provided an attractive opportunity to take profits and rebalance portfolios. By the end of Q3, Bitcoin had not broken structurally but it had revealed tension beneath the surface. Momentum stalled, narratives multiplied, and distribution quietly increased, setting the stage for the repricing and reckoning that would follow in Q4.

Q4 2025 | The proxy reckoning and cycle reassertion

The failed breakout attempt late in the summer proved consequential. What initially looked like consolidation beneath resistance quickly turned into a rapid reversal, as selling pressure from long-term holders met fading marginal demand. This pattern is familiar in Bitcoin’s history — late-stage cycle moves often fail not because fundamentals deteriorate, but because liquidity has already been pulled forward.

The turning point came in October, when MSCI published its consultation on Digital Asset Treasury (DAT) companies, proposing that firms whose primary activity was holding Bitcoin or other digital assets be classified as fund-like vehicles rather than operating businesses. What follows is a disciplined, first-principles strategy that has worked for us across more than a decade of saving in bitcoin. It may not fit every situation, but we believe it’s an effective path to long-term bitcoin accumulation.

The key is to reframe the question. Don’t treat bitcoin like a stock to trade. Treat it as money a superior way to save.

Why we save in bitcoin

Most people approach bitcoin as an investment, viewing it through the same lens as stocks, bonds, or real estate.

It’s none of those.

• Not equity - there’s no management team, no board, no quarterly earnings.

• Not fixed income - no interest payments, no counterparty risk.

• Not real estate - no tenant, no maintenance, no location to insure.

We view bitcoin as money built for long-term saving. Its limited supply and ability to be held and transferred without a central issuer are the foundation of that view.

Our thesis is that as more people and institutions adopt bitcoin, its usefulness as a monetary network and demand for its limited supply can grow over time.

We want to build ownership over years, without depending on getting each purchase price right.

The case for long-term bitcoin accumulation

For most people, the practical path to bitcoin wealth is steady accumulation, building meaningful ownership over time.

A helpful benchmark is to work toward one bitcoin.

Bitcoin first exceeded median U.S. household income in November 2024 at $83,000.

Buying one bitcoin outright is out of reach for most households. For the vast majority, the realistic path toward bitcoin wealth is gradual accumulation, treating bitcoin as a long-term savings asset rather than an investment.

Bitcoin savings plan

A longstanding personal-finance principle is to set aside 20% of income for the future for long-term savings.

Our strategy builds on that foundation with a simple rule: split those savings evenly between two complementary buckets, half in U.S. dollars, half in bitcoin.

• 10% of income to BTC - bitcoin savings

• 10% of income to USD - cash savings

It does not mean holding 10% of your total wealth in bitcoin, or keeping your overall savings balanced equally as prices change. The appropriate contribution depends on your circumstances and existing savings.

This framework creates a disciplined and sustainable path into bitcoin allowing households to build exposure gradually while maintaining traditional savings.

Here’s how it looks in practice.

Imagine a household earning $100,000 a year, saving 20% for the future.

Starting in January 2021, they put $10,000 a year into bitcoin and $10,000 into cash, with cash earning a constant 3% annual yield.

Household savings impact

Five years later, the household has contributed a total of $100,000. But instead of $100,000 sitting in a bank account, their savings have grown to nearly $163,000.

The difference comes from the appreciation of accumulated bitcoin, alongside interest earned on cash, layered on top of consistent discipline.

Along the way, they also reached a major ownership milestone: by 2024, their holdings surpassed one full bitcoin through regular purchases.

For comparison, the same family saving only in cash would have just under $108,000 after five years. By integrating Bitcoin into their savings plan, they’re just over $55,000 ahead.

That’s the point of this strategy keep it simple, stay disciplined, and let time on the adoption curve do the heavy lifting.

Bitcoin is a monetary network that has spent more than 15 years expanding in adoption, security, and liquidity. Like every transformative information technology, its growth follows an S-curve, slow at first, then rapid and eventually steady as it matures.

As more participants join and the network grows, the asset monetizes best seen on a long-term price chart.

What this means for long-term savers

1. Participation matters. Starting earlier captures more of the monetization curve.

2. Time in market beats timing. Staying invested matters more than guessing tops and bottoms.

3. Avoid timing mistakes. No decision paralysis, no FOMO at highs, no panic at lows.

4. Smooth volatility. Buying on a schedule naturally averages across booms and busts.

5. Maintain exposure. You stay consistently plugged into the adoption trend without constant management.

You’re not betting on a short term trend, you’re owning time on a long adoption curve.

How to implement the plan

Set up a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly recurring Bitcoin purchase whatever fits your income cycle.

Once it’s in place, you set-it-and-forget-it.

The goal isn’t to outsmart the market or time your buys around short-term price moves. What matters is consistency.

Each recurring purchase adds to your holdings, quietly and automatically, moving you closer to meaningful ownership milestones over time.

The satoshi milestones

One of the biggest mental hurdles when starting with bitcoin is the price of a single coin.

But here’s the truth: you don’t need to buy a full bitcoin to participate in its long-term growth.

Bitcoin is divisible into units called satoshis. Just like the U.S. dollar is divided into 100 cents, one bitcoin is divided into 100,000,000 satoshis.

Because there will only ever be 21 million bitcoin, there are at most 21 million people on earth who could ever own a full bitcoin. To put that in perspective:

• There are 8 billion people on the planet.

• There are 120 million households in the United States alone.

The math is simple: not everyone can be a “whole coiner.”

That’s why we encourage people to think in terms of satoshis instead of bitcoin. Every purchase no matter how small adds to your holdings, and tracking progress in sats makes the journey more tangible.
